Structures and Deadlines


Join us as we dive into the various §1031 Exchange structures used by investors to keep their deferred tax dollars working when selling commercial and investment real estate. Our presentation will cover Forward, Reverse, and Construction Exchanges, as well as full and partial deferred transactions. We’ll also discuss the types of properties that do and do not qualify for §1031 Exchanges, as well as the real estate industries efforts to get the tight timelines extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Time will be provided for attendees to introduce themselves and network, adding some “social” to our social distancing!

  • About the Presenter:

    Michael S. Brady, CES®, Esq. is Executive Vice President for Madison 1031, a national Qualified Intermediary for tax-deferred Exchanges pursuant to Internal Revenue Code §1031. As a Certified Exchange Specialist® and an attorney, his responsibilities include consulting with clients and their advisors to provide guidance on the regulations affecting §1031 Exchanges, as well as overseeing Madison 1031 Exchange’s national sales and marketing efforts. He frequently gives seminars for attorneys, accountants, and real estate professionals, and publishes articles on tax and legal issues.

    Prior to joining Madison 1031, Mr. Brady was Vice President of Eastern Operations for Asset Preservation, Inc., the §1031 Exchange Qualified Intermediary subsidiary of Stewart Title Insurance Company, where he managed sales and operations staff handling several thousand transactions annually. During his career, he headed up two other §1031 Exchange companies, and has acted as general counsel for a title insurance company. As an attorney, Mr. Brady has over 20 years’ experience representing clients in commercial and residential real estate transactions, as well as a wide variety of business transactions and commercial litigation matters.

    Mr. Brady received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Binghamton University, and earned his Juris Doctorate degree from New York Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review and graduated Cum Laude.
